What is StrangerCam?

StrangerCam is a browser-based random video chat platform that matches you with strangers in one click, with gender and location filters and no account required. It’s been running since around 2020, which makes it an elder statesman in a category where most sites appear and vanish inside two years.

Worth noting for clarity: StrangerCam presents as a chat platform on its homepage, but its own Terms describe it as “a review and affiliate website” that does not own or operate the services it features. Both things are somewhat true — it offers chat and it publishes reviews — but the two descriptions sit awkwardly together, and the Terms are the more legally meaningful of the pair.

Is StrangerCam free?

The core chat is, and there’s no signup wall. You can open the site and be matched without paying anything.

“Completely free” deserves an asterisk, though. StrangerCam’s own privacy policy lists a substantial roster of payment processors — Segpay, Stripe, PayPal, Apple, Google and several others — and the site maintains a dedicated refunds and chargeback page. Sites that genuinely take no money don’t need either. There’s paid functionality here, including the ability to remove a ban before it expires, and the free-first marketing doesn’t foreground it.

StrangerCam’s Terms grant the company a worldwide, irrevocable, perpetual, non-exclusive, transferable, royalty-free license, with the right to sublicense, over content users transmit — including the right to copy, modify, distribute, publicly display, broadcast and otherwise exploit it, expressly including for commercial purposes. That language covers video and audio you transmit during a session.

We’re not aware of that clause being exercised, and broad license grants are common boilerplate. But it is unusually expansive for a random video chat service, it is not what most users assume they’re agreeing to, and it is materially broader than what comparable platforms ask for. Read it and decide for yourself.

StrangerCam’s privacy policy also discloses that it may capture a still image from a user’s video feed as part of ban and complaint records. That’s a defensible moderation practice and it’s to their credit that they disclose it — but it’s worth knowing that “anonymous” doesn’t mean nothing is ever captured.

Are the users real?

StrangerCam’s homepage advertises more than 2 million monthly users and over 600,000 daily video chats, and states “no fake profiles, no bots.”

None of those figures are independently verifiable, and the “no bots” claim is an absolute that no open platform can actually guarantee. We’d treat all of it as marketing. The platform does appear to have genuine scale — matching is fast and the queue feels live rather than recycled — but “genuine scale” and “2 million monthly users” are different claims, and only the first one is observable from outside.
