Camloo Review 2026 — The Gender Filter Is Earned, Not Free

Matching Gender filter, token-gated

Camloo’s gender filter isn’t free and isn’t a subscription — it’s locked behind a 30-token balance you either earn by chatting or buy for $5.50. A new account starts at zero, so you can’t use it on day one. Third-party analytics also put the user base at roughly 87% male, which matters more than any feature.

FlirtyVideoChat is an independent review site and may earn a commission from some platforms we feature — it never affects our rating.

Updated 11 August 2026. This review previously said Camloo’s filter pricing was unclear, with sources split between “free” and “around $19.99 a month.” Our gender filter paywall audit settled it in-product. Neither figure was right. The mechanic is a token threshold, documented below.

What is Camloo?

Camloo is a random video chat platform offering one-on-one HD video, text chat, a friend list, and a gender filter. It runs a virtual currency — CAML — which you either earn by chatting or buy outright, and which unlocks premium functionality.

The token economy is unusual for this category, and it’s what made Camloo’s pricing hard to pin down until we looked inside.

Is Camloo’s gender filter free?

No, but it isn’t a subscription either. Camloo does something almost nothing else in this category does: it gates the filter behind activity, not payment — while selling a shortcut past the gate.

Try to use it on a fresh account and you get this:

“The gender selection feature is available only to active users. Your CAML balance is an indicator of your activity. Chat with strangers to increase your CAML balance! It’s free 🙂 You still need: 30.00 CAML to unlock the gender filter!”

The claim that you can earn it is true — chatting builds the balance at no cost. But the same dialog puts a Refill button next to OK, and the top-up screen sells CAML directly:

  • 55 CAML — $5.50
  • 115 CAML — $11 (save 4%)
  • 160 CAML — $15 (save 6%, plus 30 days of Premium Gold)
  • 330 CAML — $30 (save 9%, plus Premium Gold)

Two details are worth knowing. The filter needs 30 CAML and the smallest pack sold is 55 — so buying past the gate costs $5.50 for roughly double what you need. And a new account starts at 0.00 CAML, which means Camloo’s homepage claim that “all basic functions are already available: a video chat, gender filter, and search by country” is not accurate on the day you sign up.

In our audit of 17 platforms, Camloo came closest to a genuinely free gender filter — and still wasn’t one. Everywhere else charges outright. That’s a meaningfully better deal than a $19.99 monthly subscription if you’re a regular user, and a worse one if you wanted to filter immediately.

Are there actually women on Camloo?

Fewer than you’d want. Third-party analytics put Camloo’s audience at approximately 87.5% male, with usage concentrated in India, the Czech Republic, and Russia.

Unlike a platform’s own user-count claims, this figure comes from outside the company, which makes it more credible than most numbers in this category — though it’s still an estimate rather than an audited fact.

Take it seriously anyway. A gender filter operating over a heavily male pool produces long waits and thin results no matter how accurate the filter itself is. This is the structural problem behind most complaints about gender filters “not working” — often the filter is fine and the pool simply isn’t there. Platforms that make themselves free for women, like LuckyCrush, exist precisely to solve this.

Is Camloo safe?

Middle of the road. It’s a functioning, maintained platform without notable security concerns, but there’s no identity verification and moderation appears conventional rather than distinguished — nothing like the device-level enforcement Camsurf runs.

The friend list feature is worth a note: it’s genuinely useful for keeping a conversation going, but it also creates a persistent connection to someone you met randomly. Add people sparingly, and read our guide on romance scam red flags first — persistent contact is where most of the trouble in this category starts.

How does Camloo work?

Open the site, set your preference, allow camera access, and you’re matched. Video quality is good. Ads interrupt the free tier without blocking core functionality. CAML accumulates through use or purchase and unlocks premium features including the gender filter.

Pros

  • Gender filter can be earned for free — genuinely unusual in this category
  • No subscription required to reach it
  • Solid HD video quality
  • Friend list for continuing conversations
  • Free tier is usable — ads interrupt but don’t block

Cons

  • Filter is unavailable on a new account despite being advertised as a basic function
  • Smallest token pack ($5.50 for 55) is nearly double the 30 needed
  • User base is roughly 87% male per third-party analytics
  • Geographic concentration limits matching in many regions
  • Token economy obscures what things actually cost
  • Advertising on the free tier
  • No identity verification, unremarkable moderation

Who is Camloo best for?

Regular users who’ll chat enough to earn the balance and would rather grind than subscribe. On that basis it’s cheaper than almost anything else with a gender filter.

Poor fit if you want to filter on your first session, or if meeting women specifically is the goal — the demographics work against that regardless of what the filter costs.

Verdict

Camloo’s pricing is no longer the mystery this review once described. The filter is real, it costs either your time or $5.50, and that’s a better deal than the $19.99-a-month standard across this category. What holds it back is the gap between the marketing and the first session: “already available” is not what a new account experiences. Good product, honest-ish pricing, unhelpful demographics. Rated 3.2 out of 5.

Frequently asked questions

Is Camloo’s gender filter free?
Not immediately. It unlocks at a 30 CAML balance, which you can earn by chatting at no cost or buy — the smallest pack is 55 CAML for $5.50.

Does Camloo cost $19.99 a month?
No. That figure circulated widely but we found no monthly subscription gating the filter. It’s a token threshold.

What is CAML?
Camloo’s virtual currency, earned by chatting or bought directly, used to unlock premium features including the gender filter.

How long does it take to earn 30 CAML?
Camloo doesn’t publish an earn rate, so we can’t say. The platform states only that chatting increases the balance.

Are there many women on Camloo?
Third-party analytics suggest roughly 87.5% of users are male. Set expectations accordingly.

Is Camloo good for meeting women?
Not particularly, given the demographics. LuckyCrush is built for that specifically.
